My Approach
As a Humanistic Therapist, I seek to work in tandem with people to come to understand how their worldview affects life choices, especially when one is in distress. I believe that you are the best person to understand your experiences and needs, my role is simply to guide and support the process.
My approach is a balance of helping people to better understand their experiences and offering guidance and support, all the while ensuring I am not interpreting ones feelings. You are viewed as the expert in your life. I will support self acceptance by providing empathy as you work on personal growth to achieve positive changes. |
Unconditional Positive Regard
- Growth Is Nurtured Through Acceptance -
Acceptance offers grace. You are seen, heard and valued, even when your insecurities
and personal failings come to light.
It is a profound relief to be able to let ones guard down, to confess one's worst feelings, to live in authenticity,
even for a moment and feel unconditionally accepted.

Therapeutic Interventions
CBT
It is hard to unknow just how powerful your thoughts are,
once you start to notice the ripple effects that they have on your day to day life.
once you start to notice the ripple effects that they have on your day to day life.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) focuses on changing ones automatic thoughts that contribute to, and worsen, emotional difficulties. In saying this, it is important to acknowledge a caveat within this modality because one needs to be present to notice what is going on around them, and more importantly, what's going on within. This is why I support the development of a mindfulness practice at the onset of treatment.
CBT is based on the theory that thoughts, feelings, what we do and how our body feels are all connected. If we change one of these, we can alter the others. By developing an awareness an around thoughts, feelings, body sensations and urges in relation to a situation, one becomes more able to observe and respond, rather than react and regret. CBT helps people identify and challenge, not only thoughts, but also patterns. A marker of progress that I always listen for, when utilizing CBT, is people communicating that they feel "unstuck". This is a tell tale sign that one has gained a sense of mastery, and in turn, has let go of maladaptive responses, such as: rumination, unhelpful thinking styles, avoidance, safety behaviors and self criticism. |
DBT
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified type of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Its main goals are to teach people how to live in the moment, develop healthy ways to cope with stress, regulate their emotions, and improve their relationships with others. Dialectic, the "D" in DBT, is a philosophical perspective that speaks to balancing opposites. In finding ways to hold two seemingly opposite perspectives at once, DBT develops a both / and rather than an either / or way of engaging with the world.
You will always find the dialectic of acceptance and change
at the heart of DBT. DBT topics encompass Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance, Emotional Regulation, and Interpersonal Effectiveness. One of the most powerful concepts found within DBT is Walking The Middle Path. This is where we learn to value and honor our experience while at the same time valuing and honoring someone else's experience... even when we do not see eye to eye.

Biofeedback
Research has found that heartfelt emotions generate an optimal psychophysiological state called coherence which is associated with improvements in health, well-being and performance.
Coherence can be seen and measured in the heart’s rhythmic activity, also called heart rate variability (HRV). Through use of the Quick Coherence Technique and monitors, you can see your own heart rate variability pattern and learn to shift into coherence in real time. |
